Today, we’re celebrating something incredible – our 300,000th bed delivery. But this isn’t just a number. It’s 300,000 children who now have a safe, comfortable place to rest their heads each night. It’s 300,000 smiles, 300,000 better nights of sleep, and 300,000 steps toward a world where no kid sleeps on the floor.

The Journey to 300,000

When we delivered our very first bed back in 2012, we had no idea we’d be here today. That little girl’s smile as she saw her new bed for the first time – it started something bigger than we ever imagined. Now, more than a decade later, our incredible network of 360+ chapters, thousands of volunteers, and generous donors have made this milestone possible.

Our 300,000th bed was delivered by our amazing Kansas City North chapter, providing a bunk bed to a family in need. But like every delivery we make, this wasn’t just about furniture – it was about giving children the foundation they need for better physical and mental health, security, and stability.

The Reality We’re Fighting

Here’s something that might surprise you: while we’re celebrating 300,000 beds delivered, we’ve actually received more than one million bed applications since we started. Let that sink in for a moment. One million families have reached out to us, desperate to give their children a proper place to sleep.

Child bedlessness is what we call a “hidden crisis.” You might not see it in your neighborhood, but it’s there. Research shows that 2-3% of children nationwide don’t have a bed of their own. That’s hundreds of thousands of kids sleeping on floors, couches, or sharing beds with siblings or caregivers every single night.

These aren’t just statistics – they’re children in your community, your state, maybe even your street. Families who are working hard but struggling to afford basic necessities. Kids who deserve so much more.

Spotlight: Our Kansas City North Heroes

We want to give a special shoutout to our Kansas City North chapter, who had the honor of delivering bed number 300,000. This incredible team has been serving their community since 2018 and has already delivered 164 beds in 2025 alone! The milestone bed is one of 1,200 beds that this chapter has built and delivered since 2020. Although there is a great need in the community, this chapter prides itself on quickly fulfilling bed requests, thanks to the dedication of their volunteers and the support of donors and partners.

“I saw this milestone on the horizon and thought, it would be nice if our chapter would be the one that delivered the 300,000 bed, but that thought was in passing. I never fathomed that we would be notified of being the chapter that achieved this milestone,” said Craig Weltig, MO-Kansas City N chapter president. “Our teams work so hard to focus on the mission and that is all that we all really care about – the children. Meeting this accomplishment is truly an honor. We are proud to be part of a small contribution that takes one bed at a time making a difference.”

The milestone bed, delivered by Kansas City N chapter, which serves Clay and Platte Counties in Missouri, provided one bunkbed for a family who recently relocated to Liberty, MO after losing everything they had in Kentucky floods earlier this year. This bunkbed offers a safe and comfortable place for this family’s children to sleep, promoting better physical and mental health, and fostering a sense of security and stability.

The chapter partners with local volunteers and organizations to help build and deliver beds, such as a team from United Methodist Church Faithworks in Liberty, MO, who had the honor of delivering and installing the milestone bed. “Delivering a bed for a child who has been literally sleeping on the floor brings our team absolute satisfaction,” said Jim Gleason, delivery team lead. “While at the same time, there is a sense of sadness that child bedlessness is something that has to be addressed in America.”

Every Bed Tells a Story

We’ve seen kids’ grades improve after getting a good night’s sleep. We’ve watched shy children gain confidence. We’ve witnessed families who felt forgotten by the world realize that their community cares about them.

The Road Ahead

While 300,000 beds is an incredible achievement, we’re not slowing down. With over a million applications still waiting to be fulfilled, our work is far from finished. But here’s what gives us hope: you.

Every volunteer who shows up on build day. Every donor who gives what they can. Every person who shares our posts and spreads the word about child bedlessness. You’re all part of this movement, and together, we’re proving that no problem is too big when communities come together.
