What’s a Bed Worth to You?

July 2, 2025

As the Executive Director of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, I often reflect on the profound impact of what we do. We build beds. We deliver beds. But what is a bed truly worth?

Consider for a moment your own experience. After a long, demanding day at work, perhaps navigating challenges, deadlines, and responsibilities, what is it like to finally return home? For most of us, there’s an immense relief in knowing we can soon sink into the comfort of our own bed. It’s where we unwind, recharge, and find peaceful, comfortable rest. This feeling of security, of a designated space that is waiting for you each and every night, is invaluable.

Now, imagine that feeling amplified for a child who has been sleeping on the floor; for them, a bed isn’t just a piece of furniture; it’s a lifeline. It’s not merely a gift for a single night; it’s something that can truly transform a life for countless years to come.

Imagine the comfort. After a long day of school and play, or even just existing in a difficult situation, the soft embrace of their very own bed offers immediate relief. It’s a feeling of safety and security, a personal haven where they can truly rest. This comfort and security aren’t luxuries; they are fundamental building blocks for a child’s development.

A bed has a ripple effect on a child’s overall well-being. It offers a positive impact on their health, allowing for restorative sleep that fuels their growing bodies and minds. This, in turn, boosts their physical and mental well-being, helping them show up more ready to learn, play, and thrive. It’s a foundation for a brighter future.

At Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a fully furnished bed—complete with a volunteer-made bed frame, a brand new mattress, fresh sheets, cozy bedding, and a new pillow—represents all of these life-changing benefits. For just $300, you can provide this complete package. Your donation isn’t just buying wood and fabric; it’s providing comfort, safety, better health, and the chance for a child to dream big, not just tonight, but for countless nights and years to come.

What’s a bed worth? To a child who receives one, it’s priceless. To you, it’s an incredible opportunity to change a life.

Racing to 300,000 Beds Before Summer Ends

Summer should be about freedom, fun, and family time. But for thousands of children across America, summer break means something different: more time spent sleeping on floors.

The Hidden Crisis across America

In the United States, an estimated 2-3 percent of children don’t have their own bed to sleep on. While most kids are enjoying their break from school, these children are sleeping on floors, sharing overcrowded mattresses, or curling up wherever they can find space.

A Father’s Mission

Meet Jarrod Olsen, president of our Lansing chapter. What started as weekend volunteering seven years ago has become his life’s passion. “When we started, we had a waitlist of 750 to 800 kids,” Jarrod recalls. “It took us nearly three years to catch up that list.”

Earlier this year, Jarrod and his 11-year-old daughter Ella delivered beds to four young sisters – twin 3-year-olds and a 5 and 6-year-old living with their single dad. Watching them piece together the pre-drilled lumber, transforming raw materials into hope, you could see why this work matters so much.

“I’ll look back and say I personally affected ‘X’ number of lives of kids,” Jarrod said as the girls climbed into their new beds for the first time. “That to me… that’s important.”

Building Hope, Plank by Plank

You might think sponsoring a bed is expensive, but here’s the truth:

  • A complete bunk bed costs $600
  • A single bed costs $300
  • A mattress costs $100
  • A bedding set costs $75
  • A pillow and mattress protector costs just $25

And if you want to donate a single bed or even a bunk but aren’t able to pay the full price today, you can join the Bunkhead Club and contribute monthly.

  • A single bed costs $25 a month for a year
  • A bunk bed costs $50 a month for a year

Every component matters. Every dollar counts. And with 95% of donated dollars going directly to building beds, your impact is immediate and tangible.

Racing to 300,000

We’re on the verge of a historic milestone – delivering our 300,000th bed. That’s 300,000 children who now sleep safely because someone cared enough to help.

But we’re not there yet. And with summer break meaning kids spend more time at home, the need is urgent.

Your Move

School may be out, but our work isn’t done. These kids need beds now, not when it’s convenient.

Will you help us reach 300,000 beds? Will you ensure no child in our community sleeps on the floor tonight?

Because every child deserves to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
