Imagine trying to do your homework on the floor after a long day at school, or drifting off to sleep on a couch because there’s no bed to call your own. For thousands of children across the United States, this is reality every night. At Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), we provide safe, comfortable beds so every child can rest, thrive, and wake up ready to face the day.

What a Bed Means for a Child

A bed is more than a mattress and frame. It’s:

  • Rest and Health: Children with proper sleep are healthier, more focused, and perform better in school.
  • Security: A safe space of their own, something many kids have never experienced.
  • Confidence: Owning something personal and important boosts self-worth.

Providing children with beds directly addresses child bedlessness and ensures they can thrive both at home and at school.

What a Bed Means for a Parent

An SHP volunteer installs a new bed with help from a little girl, the bed recipient, who holds a mallet eager to learn how to build.Parents often carry the quiet burden of knowing they can’t provide this basic necessity. When a child receives a bed, families report:

  • Relief: One less worry in a long list of challenges.
  • Restored Dignity: Knowing their child is cared for and supported.
  • Hope: A reminder that their community sees them and cares.

Supporting SHP not only impacts children but strengthens entire families and communities.

The Power of Giving Back

Helping a child sleep safely isn’t just life-changing for them — it can transform the giver too. Research shows that volunteering, donating, or serving others boosts mood, increases personal joy, and strengthens social connection and belonging.

When you donate a bed, volunteer at a build, or start a new chapter, you’re not only helping children sleep safely — you’re creating stronger communities and experiencing the meaningful rewards of giving back. Together, we’re lifting children and neighbors alike, one bed at a time.

How You Can Help Children Sleep Safely

A little girl pokes her head through the wooden bunk bed frame that is being assembled in her home.Every request SHP receives represents a child waiting for comfort and hope. Here’s how you can make an impact today:

  • Donate Beds or Supplies: $25 covers a pillow, $100 a mattress, $300 a complete twin bed, $600 a bunk bed set. With 95% of donations going directly to building and delivering beds, every contribution counts.
  • Volunteer Your Time: Join a local build day — no experience needed. Hands-on service brings families, friends, and communities together.
  • Start a Chapter: Over 265 million Americans live in areas without a Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter. With our support, you can help children in your town.
  • Partner with SHP: Schools, businesses, and community groups can sponsor builds, match donations, or host events.

More Than a Bed

One grateful parent shared, “When my daughter received her new bed, she couldn’t stop smiling. That night, she told me it was the best sleep she’d ever had.”

Every bed built is more than furniture — it’s a gift of rest, hope, and joy for both the child receiving it and the person giving it.

Together, we can ensure that NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN! — and that everyone involved experiences the joy and connection that comes from giving back.
